Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can spread through the blood or lymphatic system to organs such as the liver, lungs and brain.
While melanoma occurs less often than the other two main types of skin cancer basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), melanoma can have more serious consequences, especially if not detected early.
Melanoma is the third most common cancer diagnosed in Australia with men slightly more likely than women to have melanoma. Australia and New Zealand have the highest incidence rates in the world.

Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, occurs in the plasma cells in the bone marrow. Plasma cells generally produce antibodies that fight infections. For people with myeloma, the plasma cells only produce a type of antibody that is not useful in fighting infections.
Myeloma occurs more frequently in men than women and generally, but not always in people over 60.
